Polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Connecticut’s state election, and they close at 8 p.m. Under Secretary of the State rules, anyone in line at 8 p.m. still gets to vote. Here’s where voters in Milford, Orange and West Haven go, where to register on the day if you aren’t registered yet, and what to bring.

Still time to vote early: today and Sunday

Early in-person voting ends Sunday, Nov. 1. It’s open today, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and only at each town’s one early voting site:

  • Milford: Parsons Government Center gym, 70 West River St.
  • Orange: Town Hall, lower-level meeting room, 617 Orange Center Road
  • West Haven: City Hall basement, 355 Main St.

There’s no early voting on Monday. After Sunday, your next chance is your regular polling place on Tuesday.

Milford polling places

Milford votes at seven neighborhood polling places. Which one is yours depends on your district, and the city warns that streets can be split and that redistricting may have moved you. Look up your assigned location on MyVote.CT.gov or through the city’s Voter Registration Lookup before you go.

  • Orange Avenue School, 260 Orange Ave.
  • John F. Kennedy School, 404 West Ave.
  • Meadowside School, 80 Seemans Lane
  • West Shore Recreation Center, 14 Benham Ave.
  • Margaret Egan Center, 35 Mathews St.
  • Joseph A. Foran High School, 80 Foran Road
  • Harborside Middle School, 175 High St.

The registrars’ office, absentee ballot counting and Election Day Registration are all at the Parsons Government Center, 70 West River St.

Orange: everyone votes at High Plains

All three Orange voting districts vote at the High Plains Community Center, 525 Orange Center Road, according to the town. Each district uses its own room:

  • District 1: Gym
  • District 2: South Wing, Room 3
  • District 3: Senior Cafeteria

West Haven polling places by district

City Clerk John Lewis’s legal notice of the election, dated Oct. 8, lists the 10 polling places:

  • District 1: City Hall (basement), 355 Main St.
  • District 2: Savin Rock School, 50 Park St.
  • District 3: Washington School, 369 Washington Ave.
  • District 4: UNH Student Hall (the former St. Paul’s Church), 898 First Ave.

West Haven had about 25,000 registered voters as of mid-September, according to the registrars’ office. Questions go to Democratic Registrar Sherri Lepper at 203-937-3541 or Republican Registrar Robert J. Guthrie at 203-937-3540.

Not registered? You can still vote Tuesday

Connecticut offers Election Day Registration, also called same-day registration. The catch: you can’t do it at your neighborhood polling place. Each town has one designated location, open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • Milford: Registrar of Voters Office, Parsons Government Center, 70 West River St.
  • Orange: Registrar of Voters Office, Orange Town Hall, 617 Orange Center Road
  • West Haven: City Hall, 355 Main St.

Bring proof of identity and of where you live. The state’s same-day registration handbook accepts a birth certificate, driver’s license or Social Security card as ID. Students can use a current school photo ID. If your ID doesn’t show your address, bring something that does, such as a utility bill, lease, paycheck, property tax bill, library card or college registration statement. You’ll also sign an oath that you haven’t already voted.

Get in line early. State law lets anyone already in the same-day registration line at 8 p.m. register and vote.

What to bring, and what you don’t need

  • No photo ID is required to vote if you’re already registered. Poll workers may ask to see ID, and bringing a license speeds things up. Voters without one generally can sign a statement instead. Some first-time voters who registered by mail may be asked for extra proof, so check with your registrars if you’re unsure.
  • Every polling place has an accessible ballot-marking device for voters with disabilities.
  • Mailed an absentee ballot? It has to be back at your town clerk’s office, by mail, drop box or in person, by 8 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Not sure you’re registered, or where you vote? Check MyVote.CT.gov.
