Voters in Milford and Orange can start casting ballots on Monday, Oct. 19, when early in-person voting opens for the Nov. 3 state election.

Early voting runs every day for 14 days, from Monday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Nov. 1, including both weekends. Polls are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and Thursday, Oct. 29, when hours stretch from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s office.

Where to vote early

Each town has one early voting location, according to the state’s official list:

  • Milford: Parsons Government Center gym, 70 West River St.
  • Orange: Town Hall, lower-level meeting room, 617 Orange Center Road

Early voting happens only at your town’s designated site, not at your usual neighborhood polling place.

What’s different this year

At the early voting site, you’ll check in, get verified as an eligible voter, print and sign your name in the early voting log book, and receive your ballot. The state says two things are new this year: voters now feed their finished ballots directly into a tabulator instead of sealing them in an envelope, and every voter must both print and sign their name at check-in.

Election officials record each early voter in the state’s centralized voter registration system, which the state says keeps anyone from voting twice, whether early, by absentee ballot or on Election Day.

Not registered? You still have time

The regular registration deadline passed on Friday, Oct. 16, but Connecticut offers same-day registration. If you’re eligible, you can register and vote on the same day at your town’s early voting location. On Election Day, you can register at your town’s same-day registration site.

Prefer to vote by mail?

For the first time, Connecticut voters don’t need a reason to vote by absentee ballot; the state calls it “no excuse required.” You can apply online at MyVote.CT.gov or get an application from your town clerk. Completed ballots must be back by mail, drop box or in person at the town clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Election Day

On Tuesday, Nov. 3, polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at your regular polling place, and anyone in line by 8 p.m. can vote. You can check your registration, find your polling place and view your sample ballot at MyVote.CT.gov, or call your town’s registrars of voters.
