Breaking news graphic: Knifepoint robbery near Shipyard Lane, Milford

MILFORD — Milford police are asking for the public’s help after two separate incidents along the New Haven Avenue corridor Friday night, Oct. 16: a robbery at knifepoint in the Shipyard Lane area and a breach of peace near the Beth-El Shelter.

At about 11:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Shipyard Lane for a robbery at knifepoint, according to a Milford Police Department press release. The victim told police that five men in a black Audi pulled a knife on him and then stole his wallet. The suspect vehicle was last seen at Shipyard Lane and New Haven Avenue, police said.

Earlier that evening, at about 7:09 p.m., police responded to the area of the Beth-El Shelter at 90 New Haven Avenue for a breach of peace, according to a separate department release. The caller said a man walking in the area had some type of food or liquid thrown at him by three unknown men. Police did not say whether he was hurt.

The second report follows a statement from Mayor Richard Smith, posted on the city’s website, condemning a series of attacks on members of Milford’s homeless community, which he said police are investigating. Police have not said whether Friday’s incident is connected.

Anyone with information, video footage or who witnessed either incident is asked to contact the Milford Police Department at 203-878-6551. Police said robbery tips should go to the Detective Bureau at that number.
