Welcome to Milford Voice’s first Pet of the Week, where we introduce you to an animal waiting for a home at Milford Animal Control.
Lily turned up as a stray in the dead of winter. The shelter says she was nervous, wandering and not sure who to trust. These days, according to her adoption listing, her bright personality is shining through. She loves belly rubs so much that she’ll often plop herself right into your lap.
Getting to know Lily
Lily is a pit bull terrier mix, about 2 years old and around 56 pounds, with a short, easy-care brown-and-white coat. The shelter calls her a girl’s girl who tends to gravitate toward women. She’s quick to learn: she’s picking up basic obedience fast and, the listing says, “already impressing the trainers.”
She’s also high energy, so she’ll need plenty of exercise and mental enrichment, especially at her age. She’s still recovering from her time on the streets and takes basic skin supplements to feel her best.
- House trained: yes
- Spayed and up to date on vaccinations: yes, per the listing
- Cats or small children: no. Lily can’t go to a home with either.
- Other dogs: not clear yet. The shelter says meet-and-greets can be arranged.
- Adoption fee: $155. That matches the city’s posted fee for spayed or neutered dogs.
How to adopt from Milford Animal Control
Milford Animal Control is a division of the Milford Police Department and serves Milford and Orange. Visitors reach the shelter at 49 Silver Sands Parkway by entering through Silver Sands State Park; there’s no vehicle access from East Broadway, the city says.
You’ll need to fill out the city’s adoption application completely. The city warns that missing information or supporting documents will get an application denied. Animal Control accepts cash (no bills larger than $20), bank checks and money orders only. No personal checks, debit or credit cards.
Lily’s availability can change quickly. Call or email the shelter to confirm she’s still available before you go.
