The New England Guitar Society holds its free monthly members’ meeting on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Milford Arts Council’s Firehouse Gallery, 81 Naugatuck Ave., in Milford’s Walnut Beach neighborhood, according to a CT Examiner event listing. It is not a ticketed concert.

The group’s Classical Guitar Sessions meet on the second Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. The listing describes a friendly, casual gathering where anyone who plays classical guitar at any level is welcome to play or try out excerpts of their work, and where listeners can simply join as enthusiasts.

According to the society’s website, NEGS was founded in 2004 by Milford-area classical guitarists James Baird and Cem Duruöz and is a member committee of the Milford Arts Council. Monthly meetings include informal solo performances, ensemble readings and discussions about the classical guitar. Separately, the society presents a guest artist concert series at the MAC’s chamber concert hall.
