Dimly lit speakeasy lounge nook with leather chair, plant, bookshelf, and neon at KAOS Milford

MILFORD — When KAOS (say it like chaos) cut the ribbon on Woodmont Road in March 2026, it sold a mood as much as a meal: speakeasy lighting, private dining nooks, steaks and thin-crust pizza, Italian-American comfort food you could tweak off the menu. Owner Randilee England — also styled Randi Lee England in News 12 Connecticut coverage; the Hartford Courant used Randilee — spent about two years on permits, a liquor license, kitchen buildout, and dcor before the doors opened.

Six months later, the public dining room is gone. The website is back. The pitch is different.

KAOS is now exclusively available for private events, according to kaosofmilfordct.com. There is no walk-in dinner service. Dates are available by inquiry — not a published calendar of ticketed Saturday shows.

March opening: mystery, nooks, and a mayor willing to break habit

The Milford Regional Chamber and the city welcomed the restaurant with a March 6, 2026 ribbon-cutting at 354 Woodmont Road. Mayor Richard Smith told the crowd he was usually a creature of habit — “but I am going to break that and come here,” coverage from Finding Connecticut and News 12 recorded.

England told News 12 the draw was straightforward: “Delicious food, strong drinks and a unique experience is why people should come to KAOS of Milford.” While the place was open for public dining, KAOS advertised 25% off every Wednesday for police, fire, EMS, military, veterans, and hospital personnel.

The Courant’s April 2, 2026 feature put the room at roughly 4,000 square feet and about 100 seats, including the bar — comfy couches and barrel chairs in nooks separated by bookshelves, with old family photos, Prohibition imagery, and celebrity portraits (Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, the Rat Pack) carrying the speakeasy vibe. England described a customizable menu: swap sides, ask the chef, lean Italian-American with steaks, pizza, and chicken. She called KAOS a “steak and pizza house with some amazing chicken dishes.”

Opening-era England quotes (Courant, April 2026)

England framed dining as more than plates on a table. The Courant quoted her:

“It should be an experience I know when people are eating and drinking they’re at their happiest.”

She told the Courant the tucked-away Woodmont Road spot added to the “mystery” vibe, that she modeled the room after things she likes, and that after years in hospitality and retail management she spent two years getting KAOS ready. The name itself came from the chaos of that process — spelled Kaos, pronounced chaos. She also said the best part of owning the place was “Meeting people and seeing the joy,” and that “Food always brings people together.”

Milford Voice has not conducted a new interview with England for this story; quotes above are from contemporaneous Courant and News 12 reporting.

Early June: “closed until further notice”

About three months after opening, KAOS posted on Facebook and Instagram that, “after much consideration, KAOS is closed until further notice.” Connecticut Scoop dated the social posts around June 8, 2026; Patch followed June 9; the Courant and CT Post reported the closure in mid-June.

The grateful language, as carried by Scoop, Patch, and Courant coverage of the Facebook post, ran along these lines:

“We are incredibly grateful for the support, loyalty, and memories shared with us throughout this journey. Thank you to every guest, friend, family member, and staff member who helped make KAOS what it was. From all of us, thank you for being part of the KAOS family.”

Owners gave no reason for the shutdown in those posts. Local coverage noted the restaurant website briefly went dark after the announcement.

The pivot: private events only

The site is live again — relaunched around private bookings rather than nightly dinner service. Homepage copy is blunt: forget the typical banquet hall; KAOS is now exclusively available for private events in a speakeasy-inspired setting at 354 Woodmont Rd, Milford, CT 06460. Bookings are by inquiry at (475) 327-7013.

As of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, Milford Voice found no published calendar of specific upcoming public ticketed events on the site. The events and menu pages say dates available — meaning host your party there, not “here’s Saturday’s show.”
