Let me tell you something about Milford’s dining scene — and I’ve eaten my way through more of it than I’d care to admit. There are places you go out of habit, places you go because they’re convenient, and then there are places that make you feel like you struck gold the day you found them. Bridge House on Bridgeport Avenue is firmly in that last category.

If you’re asking “what are the best restaurants in Milford, CT?” — this belongs near the top of the list. Here’s why everyone in Devon already knew that, and why it took the rest of us embarrassingly long to catch up.
Just Over the Bridge — and Worth Every Step
Bridge House has been quietly doing its thing at 49 Bridgeport Ave in Milford since December 2007. It sits just over the Devon Bridge — which, if you’ve never made that turn, means you’ve been missing out for years and you need to fix that this weekend. It’s a gastropub in the best possible sense: genuinely impressive food, but you can still show up in jeans, order a round of beers, and feel completely at home.
The vibe is English and Irish gastropub by design — warm wood, low lighting, that cozy-but-buzzy energy where conversations bounce off the walls. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, and the restaurant says its private dining room seats up to 80.
The Menu: Legitimately Something for Everyone
Here’s the thing about Bridge House that keeps people coming back: the menu is exactly the right size. Contemporary American with a coastal New England lean — seafood, steaks worth ordering, and a weekend brunch that’ll make you mad you only discovered it recently. Prices below are from the restaurant’s current online menu.
What to Order
Two Way Calamari — $16
Start here. It’s calamari two ways — marinated and fried — served with an arugula salad and spicy aioli. Google reviewer Annamarie Rivera called it, along with the steak frites, the best she’s ever had (her full quote is below).

14 oz New York Strip — $38
Truffle butter, fried smashed potato, and grilled asparagus. If you want the steak without the full strip, the Steak Frites ($29) is sliced hanger with truffle fries and a green salad.

Grilled 14 oz Berkshire Pork Chop — $32
A thick chop with roasted sweet and hot peppers, sliced fried potatoes, and broccoli rabe. The peppers have real heat.

Pan Roasted Salmon — $30
Baby bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, crispy ginger rice, and a sesame orange glaze. It’s the lighter seafood play on a menu that leans hearty.

Colossal Scallops — $34
Big seared scallops over white bean risotto with applewood bacon, broccoli rabe, and tomato.

Twin Lobster Rolls — $38
Two rolls of fresh Maine lobster with house-cut fries and a green salad. It’s the summer-on-the-shoreline order, any time of year.

Chicken & Waffles — $26
Crisp fried chicken on a vanilla waffle with purple slaw, candied bacon, and maple aioli. It’s on the everyday lunch and dinner menu, so you don’t have to wait for the weekend. Brunch runs Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and adds lighter plates like the Garden Frittata ($16): asparagus, tomatoes, spinach, and mushrooms with béarnaise.

Rum Raisin Bread Pudding — $12
House-made, served warm with fresh whipped cream. Banana fans should look at the Banoffee Pie ($14) instead: layers of banana cheesecake and cookie butter mousse under whipped cream and crushed chocolate-covered toffee.

What Real Milford Diners Are Saying
Bridge House holds 4.4 stars on Google from more than 900 reviews. For a restaurant open since 2007, that’s an impressive sustained track record. A sample:
food was 10/10. hands down best calamari and steak frites i’ve ever had.
— Annamarie Rivera, Google review
I had the pork chops and was very happy with it. Tender pork topped with sweet and spicy peppers (which were actually spicy!) alongside some fresh veggies.
— Sean Sullivan, Google review
Milford can be hit or miss with their cuisine, but Bridge House is a newly found GEM for us. The flavors are incredible and we were treated so well everytime we’ve been here.
— Joseph Michael, Google review
We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Bridge House, and it was the perfect way to begin our wedding weekend.
— Ashley Mowka, Google review
Food was amazing. Drinks were delicious. All customers seemed super happy. Best Gastropub hands down.
— Zach Wiseman, Google review

Great for Groups, Dates, and Everything In Between
The private dining room seats up to 80, and it handles the big nights — see the rehearsal-dinner review above. For date nights, it threads the needle — nice enough to feel special, relaxed enough that nobody’s overthinking it.
The Verdict
After nearly two decades, Bridge House isn’t coasting on reputation — it’s still earning it visit by visit. The consistency is what separates it. A lot of restaurants have a great first night. Bridge House has been having great nights since 2007.
Go. Order the calamari first. Save room for the bread pudding. Thank me later.
